Thackery Pleiades XX Old Vine – $28

20111018-062848.jpg

It’s a blend, part Pinot, viognier, Syrah, mourvedre, sangio etc. Light in color like a Pinot. But a fair amount of flavor. Lots of fruit, low tannin, supple mouthfeel, not too dry or too sweet. Overall I wish it gave me a little more but it’s a lighter style wine. Very pleasant. Definitely like it.

Austin Hope 2009 paso Robles Syrah $30

20110825-051329.jpg

Tim: deep full flavor.. Not for the weak-willed or faint-at-heart. Satisfying chocolate, burnt wood and tobacco loom large, with berry, granite, vanilla and pencil overtones. Great but not a flat out 10. Definitely let this one decant for a day before drinking.

Tudal 2008 Cabernet -$34

20110821-065948.jpg

Tim: from Costco. Not remarkable the first day, but leave it open one day then drink it. Exceptional flavor, mouthfeel body etc. Very nice! Deep berry , some oak, strawberry and vanilla hints Very very approachable, satisfying. Lacks the depth and character of a really fine wine but excellent choice for the price. Crowdpleaser!

Mac Murray 2008 Pinot $14

Tim: Not bad for $14. Pleasant. Would buy again. Doesn’t give you the depth a better wine would but no bad flavors.. Very drinkable.

Charles Smith 2009 Boom Boom Syrah. $17

20110809-045036.jpg

Tim: Deep dark color, granite tobacco blackberry, a bit thin, nice flavor – Washington state mineral flavor clearly evident. Not a big juicy wine, but at this price point not bad.

Spoto Cabernet 2007 $70

20110805-044515.jpg

Tim: fabulous rich inky deep berry with some bark, oak and tannins but not too much. More than some but meaty satisfying wine. Would be best decanted a couple hours or cellared right now.
